Fables, Vol. 1: Legends in Exile by Bill Willingham

1.0

I read this because I adore Sandman and I love mythology, urban fantasy, and retellings of old legends. I was hoping for so much more in this, but... yeesh. Scenes jumped to their foreordained climaxes way too fast, dialogue was sloppy and unoriginal, characters were predictable and unoriginal. The entire shtick was a murder mystery, but the by-the-numbers approach with its execution was void of any invention or originality, and felt like a beginner's attempt at a murder mystery, with the bare workings so nakedly visible. The artwork was stiff and uncomfortable, nothing worthy of the magical material they were working with.
