Kaleidoscope Hearts
by Claire Contreras
"The one thing he forgot to teach me was how to deal with the pain that squeezed my chest after he broke the ghost of what heart I had left."

Estelle & Oliver
SUBPAR SUMMARY
A year after the tragic and abrupt loss of her fiancé, Estelle (Elle) decides to finally start moving on by moving in with her brother. Almost as soon as she arrives, her first love (and broken heart), Oliver, shows up. He’s one of her brother’s best friends and any feelings they may have had previously have been explicitly secret as her brother would never allow any of his friends to date her. But Oliver seems set to rekindle and win Elle now that he sees a second chance to right his many wrongs.
THOUGHTS
I really didn’t like this one. Don’t get me wrong, it was emotional and some of the quotes you can pull from this book are absolutely beautiful. I just feel bad for Elle. She was strung along and abandoned by Oliver over and over. I know we see his hang-ups, especially concerning his father’s “wisdom”, but he never really fights for her. He just continues to screw around or flirt or let girls hang off him even when he’s actively pursuing her again. The ending was sweet and it’s clear he loves her but the casualness throughout just turned me away from seeing him as loyal.
