Second Glance by Jodi Picoult

3.0

Jodi Picoult is a rare one-of-a-kind author - I was completely blown away the very first time I picked up one of her books.

The "problem" (for lack of a better word) with devouring everything you can by an exceptional author, there comes a point where those twists and turns that left you stunned can be easily predicted. So the 3 stars I give "Second Glance" comes with a caveat that perhaps it was more down to Jodi Picoult saturation than any major flaw in the book - after all I really *wanted* to adore it.

Besides being able to foresee the turns the novels too, I felt the quotes on eugenics in Part Two detracted from the book. And despite loving the supernatural angle, I couldn't connect with one of the main characters. My final complaint was the sudden and abrupt ending; however being fair to Jodi Picoult, I'm the type of person who likes stories to be wrapped up in a neat little bow.

It won't stop me from reading Picoult but at the same time I would recommend another one of her masterpieces to those new to her work.
