both the formatting & writing of this book are absolute GENIUS. written like a screenplay, the world of Black & White felt mind-bending in a way similar to the world built in the film synechdoche, new york. this one page in particular really stuck with me where all the text was right-aligned until the last sentence of the paragraph which switches to left-aligned text right when willis steps into the light.... it provided a visual through the layout of the text & truly read cinematically, which i think is hard to accomplish through formatting rather than relying only on descriptive words (as a design student & film geek i loved it). AMAZING.
the difficulty of assimilation really hits home as someone who comes from a family of immigrants & struggles finding how i fit in. i relate to willis so so much like wow this book is truly one of a kind. a must-read for anyone really. the way it tied together one of my favorite passages from the book to the ending made me cry. 5/5 🤍
