A Pho Love Story features Bao and Linh, high school seniors whose parents own competing restaurants and whose hostility actually goes back much further. When a chance encounter brings Bao and Linh together sparks fly but how can they make it work? I listened to this on audio which I really liked for two main reasons. The story is told in the first person, alternating between Bao and Linh. Having both a male and female narrator added to the feeling of authenticity. Hearing the Vietnamese words and phrases pronounced correctly helped immerse me in the book’s world. This book has a strong coming of age element as Bao discovers a love of writing and Linh finds the courage to pursue her artistic passions despite her parents reservations. It also touches a little on the experiences of Vietnamese refugees. A solid, enjoyable feel-good read.
