Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

What a beautiful novel.

This is about the story between two characters who bond over their love of video games and go on to create some together after college. The novel chronicles their relationship dynamic and their creative experience of making video games.

While Sam and Sadie’s relationship was certainly not ideal, I found it to be realistic and relatable. I typically find it difficult to relate to the average novel character but I related with both of them, although at times I felt more inclined toward Sam. I felt emotionally invested in them early on in the story (another rarity!).

There were so many dynamics to this story which kept things fresh and interesting. It was fun reading about the games they created together, even the ones that I’d probably have no interest in playing. I just enjoyed accompanying them on a creative journey and seeing what they would come up with next.

I really enjoyed the narration style even though I can’t quite put my finger on why. I think I liked how it relayed extra information about the characters (omniscient POV?). It stuck out to me as very different from a lot of the books I've been reading lately. I noticed that some readers felt the narration tended to over-explain or handhold, but I didn’t think so (or maybe I don’t mind that as much as others?)

The pacing felt just right. I couldn’t put this book down until I finished it. It strikes me as the type of book that I'll probably reread in the future.
