The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

This book was a fantastic read for me. There were definitely some places in the storyline that were slow and it took some time to get to the "good stuff", but it was definitely worth the slow ride to the top to get the thrill of going down.

Overall, I really enjoyed it. The world building was very well done. I never felt lost as to who or what was where, where they belonged or came from, etc. That was my biggest concern when I picked up this book, was that I would get lost due to its size and the number of lead characters, and all the different plots/twists. However, Shannon really pieced it together in a way that allowed me to not only retain the information really well but also to understand it.

This was a book filled with adventure, soul-searching, friendship, and love. A book of strong women finding their foothold in the world. It was inspiring for me.

PS: I won't lie, Sabran's character is really the only one that fell flat to me. She was just so...bland, but also important to Ead's story. It's for her character alone that I shaved off half a star. But I'm looking forward to the next one!
