Hooked On You
by K. Evan Coles
I wanted to like this more. The premise is lovely, and I always love seeing mental health addressed in books.
I found it difficult to invest in Judah and Connor's relationship for the first half of the book and almost gave up reading, which would have been a shame because there are some beautiful moments of authenticity in the latter half of the book that allow you to empathise more with the characters.
I did end up rooting for Judah and Connor eventually; Judah is almost unnaturally understanding and so supportive, and whilst Connor makes a mistake, he does the work to redeem himself.
Unfortunately for me, the formality of the conversation at the start and the lack of tension for the first half meant that I didn't enjoy this as much as I wanted to.
The bonus scene is disconcerting: it must occur prior to the last chapter because at the end of the bonus scene, Judah and Connor talk about moving in together, but in the last chapter, Connor has already talked about how they live together. It needs a note stating that it occurs prior to Chapter 19, otherwise it feels like a plot continuity error.
