To the Lighthouse
by Virginia Woolf
Because her writing is so abstract and visual, it's really hard to find any way to describe or explain what exactly makes you feel the way you feel when you read anything by Virginia Woolf. it's just so different from anything you usually read. It's so remote yet so intimate at the same time, you get insights into the characters, their dynamics, the times they live in, yourself and the human experience yet it always feels light to read.
There is a lot of social and historical commentary in here, as well as expeditions into the world of aesthetics, art and love. But it's all framed so well and executed so neatly it really makes you feel rather than think.
Although I have to admit, I enjoyed 'the Waves' a lot more than 'to the lighthouse' they're very different books and the lighthouse does some things in ways that still surprised and delighted me.
