I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. The world-building was above and beyond so many other YA books I have read and the story got surprisingly dark in points. The loss of autonomy for women, and creation of huminoids for specific tasks that alter them to the extream, the use of 'the Excess' to describe the planet-dwelling humans really added a dimension of darkness and violence to the whole atmosphere of the book.
