Roomies by Christina Lauren

3.0

Christina Lauren know how to right a goddamn addictive romance. Their books have been hitting the spot lately. As was expected, I had so much fun with this one. I think the love interest, Calvin, being Irish is really what sold me on this story. But the theatre and musical aspect was something I ended up enjoying a lot even though I didn't expect to care for it at all.

The first half of this book was a whirlwind. From the impulsivity of the main characters and me picturing Calvin as Hozier (how could I not when he's supposed to be an Irishman making music on the subway...) to the angst this book produced, I thought I could end up liking this more than Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating. But then the second half of the book rolled around. Everything that happened felt a bit rushed and as if it was being crammed together to fit within 350 pages. I think what sucked for me is that I thought it could have been redeemed. I thought I could get past the rushed middle and that I could still love this book by the end. But unfortunately, I didn't particularly like how this ended. It all felt a bit convenient? I'm unsure if that's the right word to use, but it just felt like it wrapped up too nicely after the unsatisfying and hellish conflict these two characters went through. I really didn't like the conflict. At all. And I also hate what they did with Holland's best friend, Lulu. That really annoyed me.

Overall, though, I do think this is worth reading. It was a blast to read, and the drama was all there which I think is needed in a romance book. Fans of Christina Lauren won't regret reading this :)
