Anxious People by Fredrik Backman

5.0

This book snuck up on me. It starts out as the story of the world's worst hostages giving interviews to a small town police department about a bank robber who may or may not have a fake gun. It's very funny in the "people are the worst" sort of way.

At some point, it got deeper without me noticing. Still funny, but real people with real problems. I was invested. I was feeling things. I was...crying??? Those damn Stockholmers!! The end was a tadddd contrived, maybe, but I think we all deserve some of our endings to be wrapped up with a bow.

The book was a warm hug and a reminder that we're all just doing our best.

(Also, it's set the night before NYE, so a timely read in January.)
