The Salt Road by N. Cáceres

5.0

I cannot be the only one who hated Annette (Anita, Xochitl’s mom in Obsidian Feathers) so when I read the synopsis of this I knew I had to read it! After reading the trigger warnings, I was both terrified and intrigued to read this. This book is the exact definition of a revenge story, Karma, etc. After the first few chapters of graphic, disturbing scenes, I was able to be more mentally prepared for what was to come.

One of the biggest things I liked about this book is that we see Anita try to reinvent herself. She does this by changing her name to Annette, this allows her to fit into her rich social group and land herself connections. By changing her name, she is erasing her past and pushing herself further from her familial roots. This is an act we witness now as names are changed to appeal more ‘Americanized’ or as a way to assimilate.

Once again, N. Cáceres’ writing is beautiful, descriptive, and overall addicting! I cannot wait for the next book!!

💀A huge thank you to @authorncaceres for sending me this E-ARC, it in no way influences my review. The Salt Road will be out on September 12, 2023, so preorder NOW!
