This book started out so promising and the initial meet cute and set up was so good! But-incoming spoilers-the main couple spend the majority of the book separated and it read more as literary fiction than romance. As Abby fans will know, there are some surprising gut punches that had me sobbing and usually that's an automatic 5 stars, but this time it felt more performative than necessary to the plot. Check for content warnings as there are many, and in the end, I was just more upset about what could have been. I spent a week trying to decide my star rating and with time to stew it just kept going down. I love Abby and hate this for me 😭
