The Fourteenth Goldfish by Jennifer L. Holm

4.0

I am really enjoying reading these 40 juvenile fiction books with my son for novel quest. It's opening my eyes to all the lit out there beyond the popular series! The latest, The Fourteenth Goldfish by Jennifer L. Holm, was especially pleasing to me because it featured a girl discovering an interest in science. Ellie is at an awkward middle school age when elementary friendships start to change because of diverging interests. But, her grandpa is a scientist who has just discovered a "fountain of youth" and has to come liver with her because he now appears to be fourteen. He opens her eyes to how science discoveries change the world, opens her up to new friendships, and causes her to see the ethical questions related to new science discoveries. Loved it!
