jcpdiesel21 's review for:
Moonraker
by Ian Fleming
A disappointment compared to the preceding two books in this series. I was not aware how much the plot had been altered from page to screen, so I went in expecting something more tied to space and ended up with a nuclear weapon instead. This wouldn't have been such a big deal if the book didn't feel so uneventful with hardly anything in the way of atmosphere to set the mood. There is surprisingly little action here and nothing in the way of exciting espionage to make up for it. Villain Hugo Drax is fairly lackluster for much of the novel; his main characteristics early on are cheating at cards, road rage and a barking laugh until his background and motivations are finally revealed near the end, but by then it was too little too late for me. Kind of a waste of Bill Nighy's dulcet tones.
