The legacy of the IRA hangs over the republic still, though Moran’s generation is now gone. There’s a line that chills me about
Moran’s funeral, where they say there was no salute. I know people whose families rejected the IRA post war of independence, stood against them, wouldn’t talk about them, and still gunmen slipped into the crowd, rifle saluted the coffin and slipped away just as quickly. Those sorts of shadows haunt you.
