I love Sappho's poetry, but this isn't my favorite translation of her work. I wish I'd realized before I bought it that this is a republished version of a book originally written in 1912. In the very lengthy introduction, the author doesn't at all mention that she was sexually attracted to women. In fact, he says something along the lines of "she had several close female companions." Truly a case of historians saying they were just friends 😭
