Demons at Deadnight
by A. Kirk, E. Kirk
Words. A book is nothing but words. What makes it more than that is the way these words are used and how they connect to the reader. "Demons at Deadnight" isn't just words, it's a song. Every word flows together in perfect harmony. I held my breathe till the end of every sentence desperate to find out what happens next. The words A&K Kirk used it this book put me through a roller coaster of emotions. One moment I'm laughing my head off, and the next I'm crying my heart out. The main character, Aurora, is a spunky, sarcastic teenager who will not take trash from anyone. Everything about her is awesome and hilarious. Aurora just moved to tiny Gossamer Falls from the big city of Los Angles, and expected to live a normal life, but got everything but that. She got a life full of mystery and scary, ugly demons wanting to kill her. She also got five Hex Boys sent to protect her: Mr. Exotic, Albino, Gigantor, Aussie, Tristan, and Jayden.
Mr. Exotic: (also know as Ayden) Ayden is the most mysterious member of the Hex Boys. Actually, upon their meeting, "hazy grey vapor coiled off his broad shoulders." He is about the only guy who can make Aurora's "cheeks flame nuclear," and make you feel uncomfortable in three seconds flat!
Albino: (also known as Logan) Logan is a sweet, shy, and stylish guy who wears tuxedos for every occasion. He is like a little brother to Aurora and the other Hex Boys. Although he is sweet, he fights for what is right every time.
Gigantor: (also know as Blake) Blake perfectly resembles a brick wall, very strong and extremely tall. Blake is super cocky, and believes he is the perfect match for any and every girl. But, Blake is also a caring person who is really intact with nature.
Tristan: Tristan is a funny, wimpy guy who is a wiz at hacking. He is afraid of basically everything, and wouldn't take a risk to save his life.
Jayden: Jayden is the genius of the group; he is like a human dictionary. He uses words like "equanimity" and "perniciousness," and he always has an explanation. Although Jayden may be smart he has no idea about personal boundaries. Emotions and sarcasm is also not in his dictionary.
Aussie: (also know as Mathias) Mathias is a mean, sarcastic, and complicated guy. He has a insult and comeback for everything, and is the only Hex Boy Aurora hates. Mathias got his nickname from his place of birth, Australia. He is also the leader of the group.
Everything about this book was amazing. A&E Kirk used wonderful dialogue, beautiful imagery, great word choice, and the story had a brilliant line of events. Once I started reading I was hooked. I knew this was going to be an incredible story from the first few sentences. "Someone's car was totaled and it wasn't my fault. But who's going to believe a teenager? 'The demon did it' excuse, while more creative than 'the dog ate my homework,' was still as unbelievable. And much more likely to get me sent to the psych ward." This book taught me to not to keep secrets from my friends because they might be able to help me. Aurora keep a huge secret from the Hex Boys and it nearly got her killed, therefore if she told them sooner a lot of problems would have been resolved. My favorite character in the book is Logan because he is absolutely adorable. When he does talk, he gives genius ideas, otherwise he just trying to help. Logan's pure innocence makes me fall in love with him. On the other hand, Tristan is my least favorite character. He is so whinny, and has no bravery. I want to slap him across the face, or yell at him to shut up most of the time.
Here are my favorite quotes from the book. "I launched into a graceful ninja-like front roll, then stood my ground to face the monstrous heathen, fearless in my determination to vanquish the deadly foe. Nah, just kidding. I bolted, discretion being the better part of not getting dead." This quote is the perfect definition of Aurora. She wants to be brave and fearless, but common sense always makes her be the opposite. The next quote describes how Aurora will do anything to survive. That includes sacrificing innocent animals. "The demon diverted its sights from me and swooped down on the yappy mutt. Dogs aren't my thing. I hate dogs. And if this one was dumb enough to sacrifice itself for me, hallelujah. I kept running." The best part of the book is when................ sorry. Your going to have to read the book yourself to decide what you think is the best part. I'm sure you'll love this book as much as I do.
