Velvet Was the Night
by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
From the author: "My novel is noir, pulp fiction, but it's based on a real horror story."
This is the first book I've read by Silvia Moreno-Garcia (I know, I know. "Mexican Gothic" is on my "to-read" list!) "Velvet Was the Night" was on the "new fiction" table at the library, and the beautiful cover immediately caught my eye. Moreno-Garcia took me to a place and time I didn't know about. Her writing is lovely, and she brings 1970s Mexico to life in vivid detail. Music also plays a big role "Velvet," and I love that she included a playlist at the end of the book.
