The Wisdom of Father Brown
by G.K. Chesterton
Although Father Brown as a character is intriguing along the lines of a religious Sherlock Holmes, Chesterton's writing involved some pretty gross racism. At one point, he has a character off-handedly comment about how he understands why lynchings happen when referencing a Black person. He also made some awful racist statements about a Black person (using the n word fairly often) and then the content itself was racist too, talking about how the Black character was ignorant and engaged in voodoo. It was pretty awful and shaped I how thought of the entire work.
