If Not, Winter: Fragments of Sappho by Sappho

fast-paced

3.5

Anne Carson’s translations are evocative and creative. They make me wish there were more surviving works of Sappho! Even with a one word fragment such as “celery” Carson retains intrigue through use of vocabulary and in-depth notes describe her life through her choice of words and her portrayal by others through the centuries.
