“But the more time I spend with him, the less I dwell on the past and the more I see the good in him.”

I read The Unnatural Habitat of a Cat Lady in a short evening. It was a truly quick and addictive read, and had its very funny moments.
First, let’s talk about the Lord of the story, the one and only fluffball Smutty. He’s Amelia’s (the MFC) cat (he would say she’s his human) and the gear of many key moments in the plot. I adored him, and the book’s title has real roots.
More seriously, I found it very interesting how Amelia gets some control back on her life, asserts herself, through her sexuality. I’m usually one to like when lust comes after feelings, but here it worked just perfectly that the relationship aspect came after. (Yes, even if it’s a second chance romance). Amelia needs to find herself, to have confidence in herself, before having the ability to (emotionally) give her full trust to someone else. The fact that it comes through the affirmation and the verbalization of her needs (and desires) was truly interesting. I liked the moment when she opens up to Ben (and when she has the courage to end toxic relationships), but I would have loved a bit more of internal thoughts before that (but that’s only because I can totally relate to her…).
Ben's character was a great one too. He has come a great way since their first relationship but evolves during the story too. I loved how he was her rock, her home base. Consent was a real key point here (a lot of kudos), and I just regret that it wasn’t the case also in non-sex moments, esp. around the temporary moving (yet it didn’t prevent me from enjoying the story AT ALL, and it was mostly ok as it happens on both sides).
I had a great moment with this story and characters, thanks a lot to the author for this arc (and to Happily Booked PR). My opinions are my own.
