Brutal Obsession by S. Massery
5.0

For the first time in a while I just read to read, not review. I loved it while I lasted (DNF but great).

SOOOOO many triggers:
° Dub-con
° Unprotected sex before admitting contraceptive use (I shivered in horror)
° Spanking. The wrong hole (in my opinion. Never going there.).
° Alphahole who will take NO but she never asks (WTF?)
° Carving her with a knife. (WTF?)
° Chasing
° Strangling (eww)

The other purchase triggers:
° College dark romance
° M/F
° Standalone but part of a series

This was so depraved it was utter fantasy, but the interactions between the two kept me reading into the night. It almost felt like a catharsis. The torturous obsession leading to an actual stalker in the house kept me tense, and when I left the book I felt…calmer. Unworried. Relaxed. Huh.

I am a dancer and love the fact that the main character is also a dancer whose career prospects were totally wiped with one accident. I know how that feels, when the career you want is suddenly torn out of your hands.

Violet and Greyson both have absentee, overbearing parents with their own definitions of success, so I can see why they are attracted to each other. The characters, including their friends and parents, were so believable that I kept reading past my limits. I love, love, love an obsessive, non-mafia alphahole dub-con fantasy partner, but I do have limits.
