Memoirs from the Women's Prison by Nawal El Saadawi
5.0
challenging dark emotional funny informative inspiring reflective sad tense slow-paced

Imprisoned unfairly, Nawal El Saadawi continues to advocate for everything she believes in no matter what. Grasping for freedom and authority when she can, defending the other women in her cell, solidarity and womanhood at its maximum, this memoir was incredibly informative and touching. This might be her memoir, but she's also retelling the life of her cellmates, a reminder that these women existed too.

She seemed to have been an incredible woman, I was saddened to learn she died in 2021.

In her memoir, she mentions the fact that since she was a child, she always wanted to leave something of value behind when she died, but she didn't know what and was afraid of not being able to do so.

I hope she knew she succeeded.
