Piecing Me Together by Renée Watson
4.0

I don't know what's worse. Being mistreated because of the color of your skin, your size, or having to prove that it really happened.
Plot Summary: Jade is a junior in high school and she knows one thing: she must get out of her poor neighborhood to succeed in life. Her mother tells her it and even has her attend a more elite high school on a scholarship even though it is farther away than her local school. Her guidance counselor gives Jade the opportunity to join Woman to Woman which is a mentorship program for black teenagers. This program also had the promise of a full college scholarship so, Jade joined it. Throughout this book Jade figures out who she is with friendships, her art, her mentorship and being her own person.

My Opinion: I really enjoyed reading this book and seeing Jade figure out who she is. It is definitely a coming-of-age story for this young woman. I felt like it was slow at times but, it was a great read especially because it has so many person of color characters.

Do I Recommend this book? Yes! I enjoyed this read. It was a shorter book but, it tackled tougher themes of racism and sexism.
