Man Made Monsters by Andrea L. Rogers

3.0

This one was a little all over the place for me. The beginning was slow and hard to get into with some stories going on a bit too long and some were so short. Even with the family tree I couldn’t wrap my head around the connections between stories and once I gave that up I enjoyed it a lot more. For the stories I dug the most I loved the darkness and parallels of paranormal monsters to humans and the horrible things they can do (particularly men and in the context of the colonization and genocide that has caused generational trauma in Indigenous communities). Loved The Outsiders vibe of Shame on the Moon and loved Ama’s Boys. I also liked Maria Most Likely (but I don’t think I completely got the ending) and Me & My Monster. The illustrations were really cool. It was cool that so much of it was set in Oklahoma (though Sonic has never sold cheese curds, but especially not in 2019).
