The Book of Doors
by Gareth Brown
I honestly had no idea what this book was about when I picked it up, and yet I was still surprised when I realized it was less low-stakes litfic and more action-packed magical realism. Does this count as sci-fi? Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The whole idea of the magical library is definitely one of the most unique things that I've read this year. Things started to get a little hairy toward the end, as most time travel books do, but I still found the story easy enough to follow.
I really enjoyed the FMC and the journey that she goes on. I particularly liked how the main motivation for the majority of her actions is her love for her friend- it was a nice change of pace from a lot of other popular books.
