This is a quirky and heart warming story about finding love and family in the most unexpected of places. The narrative manages to stay light while tackling hard issues such as discrimination and healing after abuse. It encourages us not to give up in the face of a stubborn and unchanging culture, leaving us with a note of hope that one person moving the hearts and minds of just a handful of others can have a tremendous impact.
The children in this tale are absolutely delightful, and Klune's ability to project his imaginative world and characters directly into the mind of the reader brings the story to life in a deeply touching way.
I'm so happy my book club decided to give this one a try! It was a great read.
