So twisty! I was on the edge of my seat through the whole story! This was my first read by Barbara Freethy and it won’t be my last. I can't wait for book 2 and 3!
This novel was packed full of action and suspense from the first page. It grabbed me right away and I never knew what was coming next. I read quite a lot of mystery and suspense and can usually pick up how the story is going to go or what the bit “twist” will be. That was not the case with this book, I had no clue and I loved that!
Sophie’s father is killed in a very suspicious car crash leaving Sophie on the run and not knowing who she can trust. Damon shows up looking for her and they must team up, trusting each other or not, to find out who killed her father and who continues to come after them. I was surprised by the chemistry that was shown through these characters. I was worried, since it was written in 3rd person, that it would be hard to feel. I’m so happy that it wasn’t. I loved Sophie and Damon’s relationship. It was so real and raw.
I do wish this had been written in 1st person. I enjoy both POVs usually but this time I think I would have been able to connect better, and faster, with the characters in 1st person instead of 3rd.
I can’t wait to see what else is to come in this new series. Bring on more suspense!
