I read half of this book before I gave up. Initially I planned to hate-read finish it but why should I...

Between the grammar and spelling errors and undefined characters, it was hard to like anything about this story. This story doesn't know what it wants to be.

Nasir is supposed to be a "boy king", easily manipulated by his advisors and I didn't get that at all. He was an indifferent man who couldn't make his own choices because he truly didn't want to. Not really. Because his advisors were the worst. There is a level of respect and decorum Advisors have for their monarch and none of these characters have it. Everything is just underdeveloped. There's a character who says, "I am a good advisor" which is B.S because "good" advisor would never refer to their monarch by first name in his presence and in front of other people. That's rule #1.

Then you have...the main chick whose name I already forgot and I just put this book down less than 24 hours ago. Her personality is always on 10 which makes all of her actions seem less genuine. Her relationship with Camilla made my skin itch as they were supposed to be super close, best friends, sisters even (literally what they call each other all the time) but it felt like servitude. Why is her sister laying out her clothes? Why is her sister helping her dress and bathe? There relationship doesn't feel like one of sisters, but one of Lady and the servant.

The biggest problem is all the telling. I can't bond with a character or mesh with a world I can't experience. That's why it's important to show things and not tell. Don't tell me she has this type of personality. Don't tell me he's manipulated because that's not what you're showing us.

Overall, this book irritated me to the point that I almost threw my kindle. Pick a focus and stick to it. I

I've read a few books by Emma Hamm and would say I rank them from "uh, that was okay I guess" to "I really enjoyed this and can't wait for the next story" but something about her writing always feels lacking to me. This one is the worst.
