Your typical haunted house story here. Nothing really original or that stands out but the writing was surprisingly good and the plot was very predictable but does offer a few fun scary scenes. I read this as a break between heavier books and enjoyed it as a light read but I wouldn’t go into this expecting much, since it’s basically a b-flick ghost novel. 

Tori is looking for a cheap apartment to rent while she takes a summer class in hopes of getting ahead. She finds the cheapest and most rundown apartment she can and loves the space and quiet at first but things go south when she has friends over for a party. One of them entices the group to use a Ouija board, and in typical fashion they connect with what they think is Tori’s recently passed mother but in actuality they’ve invited in an evil spirit.

This one is short, predictable, and isn’t very scary but if you love ghost novels and want a quick break that’s enjoyable enough maybe check this out. Isben reminds me of a more straightforward Coates with much shorter stories.
