jetpackdracula 's review for:

The Trial of Anna Thalberg by Eduardo Sangarcía
4.5
challenging dark tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

The experimental style here is a good fit for the book. It really conveys a sense of panic and uncertainty and spiraling downward.

Overall, a haunting story with a lot of reflection on religious institutions being weaponized against those without power in society.

I also really appreciated the historical nods, especially the mentions of Hans Böhm, the Drummer of Niklashausen.
