mfeibel 's review for:
Magnolia Parks
by Jessa Hastings
Do I think this book was my penance for being a diehard Chuck and Blair shipper for years? Yes.
Did I devour it? Yes.
Is there any universe where Magnolia who is kind of bitchy and uses Tom England (WITH HIS KNOWLEDGE) and who has dated/slept with people besides BJ (when they were broken up) is equally as shitty as BJ who cheated on her, blamed her for not forgiving him, blamed her for his starting to do drugs, slept with literally any woman that looked at him when Magnolia didn't beg him to take her back, and used the refrain "We were BOTH at fault" whenever she brought up his behavior? Fuck no.
BJ Ballentine is my foe. And I genuinely got more angry at him for acting as though Magnolia not reserving sex for him alone was anywhere near the same as him cheating with her best friend and...literally everything else he did than WHEN CHUCK SOLD BLAIR. He SOLD HER. TO HIS UNCLE. FOR A HOTEL. And I still hated BJ more. Lmfao.
Part of me wanted Tom England to whisk Magnolia away and part of me wanted him to run for the fucking hills.
Look, is this book advertised as two shitty people treat each other bad? Sure. But the idea that it is anywhere close to the same levels of bad is laughable.
BJ even seemed to blame Paley and Jonah for not wanting him to tell Magnolia who he cheated with more than himself for SLEEPING WITH HER FRIEND. He kept acting as though literally anyone was on his level of heinousness and the fact that Magnolia was taking him back was crazy.
Glad they ended up apart and god willing he is a different person when they meet again.
And again, Chuck and Blair are two of the most toxic characters ever. And Chuck is worse than Blair by a mile. But maybe because we don't get treated to his inner thoughts, I have to put him above BJ. Ed Westwick sucks though.
All this to say, I loved it lol. And the writing was fun and funny and I just want BJ to go to therapy and maybe have a lobotomy. :)
