My book club was divided on this one, but I really liked it. The writing was beautiful and unnerving, the tone was mysterious, and the characters were interesting. The thing that tripped us up at book club was how the genre seemed to change toward the end of the book. I decided to just go with it, and ended up liking the book, regardless of the genre-shift, but if you're not prepared for that, you may end up suddenly disappointed during the last few chapters.
The villain was totally creepy! The author wrote him well, and the audiobook narrator's performance of him was particularly well done. Very unsettling.
To me, this was a book about male and female and human interactions, and I loved how she wrote those nuanced messages into the plot line.
I'd recommend this one, but prepare yourself for the genre-bending that happens toward the end.
