The two main characters have charmingly awful communication. It trips them up again and again. Yet at the same time, they can communicate with each other in ways no one else seems to. They struggle personally and interpersonally. Happiness seems hard to reach for them. I saw myself in many of their misgivings, mistakes, and misunderstandings. This is an honest and unglamorous love story, though potentially problematic due to how it may romanticize unhealthy relationships.
