The Canterbury Tales
by Geoffrey Chaucer
I think this would really be three and a half stars for me, taken as a whole. Some of the stories I really enjoyed (the Miller’s Tale, Reeve’s Tale, and Nun’s Priest’s Tale especially). The rhyming couplets style was pleasant to read once I got the hang of continuing to the end of the phrase and not just pausing at the ends of the lines as printed. There was a lot more humor and everyday life in the stories than I expected, though some of them did drag into religious or sexist lecture. Overall enjoyable.
