Platform Seven by Louise Doughty
4.0

Platform Seven is part of Peterborough Railway Station and in 18 months it's where two people have lost their lives by falling in front of express trains. One of those people is Lisa, who is also our narrator. She is a ghost who lingers around the station, observing people as they come and go and gradually remembering elements of her life, the emotionally abusive relationship that she was in and the way it led to her death.

This is an unusual book. A large part of it is about Lisa's relationship with the handsome doctor who is extremely controlling and belittling but it's also about the people who were peripherally affected by the two deaths at the station. It truly is the kind of book that gets you looking at the world a little differently and thinking about what is going on in the lives of people you pass in the street. However I found the ending more melancholy, less satisfying than I hoped.
