The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
by L. Frank Baum
Baum is so un-apologetically imaginative; he creates a world with no need to explain why it exists. The quick-moving plot made for an amusingly matter-of-fact tone sprinkled with emotions that shift from despondency to joy in a matter of sentences. It was difficult for me to put this book down. I can definitely see why this is a favorite of parents to read to their children - it's a delight on many levels. Younger readers/listeners will love it for the sake of the adventurous story while adult readers can see and make connections that are full of wisdom. I'm hugely looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
