Unique take on the Djinn and the four element powers
This was a fun and unique view of how Djinn and people with one or more of the elemental powers work in the world. Having the Wardens the caretakers of Earth was well done. It also showed how horrible and corrupt humans are when they can enslave an entire other race, like the Djinn. I’m sure there are some Wardens that try to treat their Djinn well, but no matter what, so long as they are enslaved, they aren’t treated correctly.
I liked that Joanne and Lewis both immediately seem to fight to release those Djinn that they meet. Jo even goes so far as to not even blame David the Djinn for holding her down while Bad Bob installed the Demon Mark on her. That takes an amazing person to not hold him somewhat responsible, even though he had no control over the situation.
The Demons and Demon Marks should prove to be interesting in the series. I can see how this series could develop in quite a few ways, reinterpreting the Djinn and Demon mythology.
That science and meteorological knowledge was even used to explain cold fronts, updrafts and so many other standard weather conditions, but was controllable by those few who could effect the energy systems that control the earth’s weather. It was a great way to explain the mystical and science working together.
The series should prove to be very interesting indeed, if all installments are written as well as this first novel.
