I really love the young character that's the focus of this story and how complicated helping someone who still doesn't fully understand their queerness is, if they even want to understand.
Contrasting the lack of discovery on the juvenile person's story with Someone-san's in the fourth volume really presents a well rounded depiction of not figuring out queerness and that being okay.
I'm so intrigued by the visual metaphor for fish and and water that's used throughout this, even though I haven't fully figured it out. My theory is that
it's somewhat about freedom. Fish, naturally, are free to be within their environment, swim about, eat what they want. However, pet fish get put in bowls and are expected to act and be a certain way by the people who are around them. This, in a way, is akin to when queer people take on a label. Even if they like their label, they're now expected to operate within it.
