Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
5.0

2021 - This year's favorite quote - "I've had such a wonderful time," she concluded happily, "and I feel that it marks an epoch in my life. But the best of it all was the coming home" (237).

And again this quote jumped out at me! It seems to be a favorite every time I read it. "Oh, it's delightful to have ambitions. I'm so glad I have such a lot. And there never seems to be any end to them - that's the best of it. Just as soon as you attain to one ambition you see another one glittering higher up still. It does make life so interesting" (281).

This final quote - "For we pay a price for everything we get or take in this world; and although ambitions are well worth having, they are not to be cheaply won, but exact their dues of work and self-denial, anxiety, and discouragement" (287).

2019 - This series truly is a classic. Each time I read it, I glean something new. This year's favorite quote - "Oh, it's delightful to have ambitions. I'm so glad I have such a lot. And there never seems to be any end to them - that's the best of it. Just as soon as you attain to one ambition you see another one glittering higher up still. It does make life so interesting" (281).

Read in 2016 - I love this book just as much now as I did when I was a child!

Read in 2013 - Such a wonderful story! I was so engrossed in Anne's story that I was disappointed the story had to end. At least there are more books and more adventures to be had!
