small town murder meets supernatural/mythology ending?? was a bit of a slow start but then picked up & was shaping up to be a really interesting commentary on blackness, its present & historical context, & its effects on generations & also had some pretty good plot twists. however, the last 15%ish of the book threw that all out the window in favor of (in my opinion) a disappointing, strange, weirdly-written ending that tied in kind of an unrelated mythology??? so confusing, especially because it was a point made in the book that egypt was NOT in the area of africa that their ancestors were from? like if youre going the mythology/supernatural route, AT LEAST pick from an actually relevant culture. like bffr, of all endings đ
i also wasnât the biggest fan of the writing itself - was a little too casual, choppy, & âtelling, not showingâ for me
