This was a February 2025 Book Club read. I’d give it a solid 3. I enjoyed it for the most part. It needed a tighter edit. When the story was focused on the central mystery, it was compelling and heart felt. I feel like it took too many tangents that pulled me out of the story and affected my ability to resonate with the characters.
I will say that my enjoyment of this book in general was severely hampered by the purely awful audiobook narration, particularly Norma’s. Joe’s sections were okay. Both narrators frequently mispronounced words which made me cringe and broke immersion. I’d strongly recommend reading this in paper or e-book format and avoiding the audiobook.
