Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

5.0

London the famous populair city that everyone knows of. But what if i told you that there existed a London bellow? Under the daily streets of London is a true fantasy world hidden. A world where a rat is named Master Long tale. and where mysterious creatures wander through the dark underworld streets.

When a regular daily office guy named Richard Mayhew rescues a stranded wounded girl named Door in the middle of the night his life change abruptly. Richard finds out that she is on the run for two assassins who haunt her everywhere she goes.

Door is from the dark London below. Soon after his rescue attempt Richard starts to notice that people from London above don't recognize him anymore. They treat him as a wandering non existing ghost. He lose his home and the only option that is left for him is to join the underworld to be able to survive.

Richard lands in the middle of the darkness. Would he ever be able to get his old life his London back?

“You’ve a good heart,” she told him. “Sometimes that’s enough to see you safe wherever you go.” Then she shook her head. “But mostly, it’s not.”

Neverwhere was the first book that i read by Nail Gaiman, but definitely not my last. I lost count of all the characters that i met while wandering in London Bellow. I found all the characters really well developed and orginal. The world building was unique and not to detailed that it distracted me. The illustrations match the dark vibe of the underworld perfectly. There was a extra story included in the book that follows one of characters while he is searching for his precious coat.

Neverwhere is an adult fantasy book wich include violence and therefore not suitable for the young fantasy book lovers.
