This is How You Lose the Time War by Max Gladstone, Amal El-Mohtar

5.0

A perfect blend of science fiction and romance!!

I rarely read sci-fi books, so when I choose this book to read I was definitely stepping outside my comfort zone. Initially, I felt lost at the start and wasn't able to build up the world. However as I gradually immersed myself in the story, it was an enchanting and captivating ride.

The story itself challenges our perceptions of time, war, and the essence of existence. And then there are the letters – oh, the letters! It's oddly beautiful, poetic, and abstract.

The writing is simply gorgeous.

"You could leave me for five years, you could return never—and I have to write the rest of this not knowing."

“I'll be all the poets, I'll kill them all and take each one's place in turn, and every time love's written in all the strands it will be to you.”

I mean just look at this.

I cannot recommend this book enough, especially to those who appreciate lyrical prose and a love story that defies the constraints of time.

“but maybe this is how we win, red.
you and me.
this is how we win.”
