Arrows of the Queen
by Mercedes Lackey
I love it! The characters are so very likeable, the Companions are just awesome and the story is very engrossing and I could easily get lost in it. :)
I really love the idea of the Companions and that they Choose someone (and, from what I gathered, often saved their Heralds from dire situations while doing so) and basically give them a second chance for having a good life. Yes, Heralds have a dangerous life and often die young (as we see in this book *sobs*) but compared to their old lives and just in general? Yeah, I would want to be a Herald too.
There have been some small "Hmmmm" things, like a thing Talia does to educate/punish Elspeth but on the other hand, the book has been written in the 80s.
Bonus point: Kerren and Ysla (even though *sobs*) and hints to some others. And, I squeed at the mention of Griffins. :)
