Really loved all the romantic examples from literature, and how truly normal the heroine is (if a little clueless.) I was actually curious how the author was going to make a second super quick ‘marriage of convenience’ trope work in the same family but, if anything, this one was slightly more plausible. It hits some of the same beats, but I liked the slightly awkward first time, and there’s a scene where the MMC comes home to find the FMC using a vibrator to get off after reading a steamy scene in a romance novel. He’s slightly affronted at first, but then asks to read the scene and then asks her if she wants to act it out, it’s also a little awkward when she realizes that sometimes authors leave out crucial steps, then he goes off script and uses the vibrator as part of the scene . . . It was glorious. I will say, Noelle Adams’s FMCs (often single 1st person POV narrators) are a little slow on the uptake, but it’s all in service of great reveals later on. Like, you know it’s coming, you just don’t know exactly how or when. Personally, I find it worth a little short term frustration, bc she so often makes it worth my while in the end.
