4.0

A mix of the mess that was Fyre Fest and the classic Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Lord of the Fly Fest is a satirical comedy-horror. Rafi spends her life savings to go to a big music festival in hopes of getting an interview with the famous River Stone for her podcast. She has some theories about him that she’s hoping to prove true. However, upon arriving to the tropical island where the festival was to take place Rafi discovers she and everyone else had been lied to. There is no Festival, they’d been scammed. From there, all hell breaks loose. This book knows exactly what it is, it’s a jab at the influencer and social media culture that has taken Gen-Z by the… well, you get what I’m saying. I was fully prepared not to like this book. At times it was a bit out there, some say it didn’t really ‘go anywhere’ but I feel like maybe the point was missed. The whole book felt as thought it was meant to shine light on how absurd the influencer culture can be at times.
