War quicky surpassed River in being the favorite Laskin brother. Though I think this will keep on changing as Eveland has a way of making morally gray (or black...?) characters so loveable and vulnerable yet fierce and badass.
There is relatively low angst between the two I would say. Yes, there is a situation but it is resolved very quickly. But there is so much happening outside the relationship. And I think this is the strength of the book. There is so much relationship focus and amazing smut, but also, there is the mystery that is worked on throughout. And we also have more of the mafia world. And I loved suspense plot in my MM romance. So yay!
If I could, I would cuddle War all the time and I'm happy that Pax accepts him just the way he is. Both characters have issues from the past that sometimes resurface even between the MCs but it is not there just for the sake of unnecessary drama. It always strengthens their relationship. And what I loved was that whenever War wanted to run away from a conversation, Pax was not having it and just got everything he needed from War.
There is also quite a lot of gore and detailed violence. And I lived for it! The bits of humour were well placed and helped keep other characters on page, mainly the twins.
The mutual obsession and devotion was everything.
Cannot wait for Xion's book. I hope the kink will deliver because in Skin Deep, the kink was absolutely scorching hot and well done.
